Most people are familiar with orthodontic braces. They are little metal or ceramic brackets that are glued on the teeth with special dental cement. The brackets are then linked together with an arch wire that applies gentle continuous pressure on the teeth. Gentle pressures move teeth. Modern braces are significantly smaller than their predecessors and the coloured elastics make braces fun.
For our more self-conscious patients who would like a more aesthetic choice, we can offer ceramic braces and even tooth coloured wires.
Not everyone needs braces, but they are very useful in correcting crooked, misaligned, crowded, or spaced teeth. The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends having a consult by age 7. Certain issues with the teeth such as a crossbite can be successfully intercepted early, avoiding some future problems.
We offer a free complimentary consult for all patients. Our philosophy of practice is to aim to start orthodontics at the most advantageous time to allow the most effective and efficient treatment. If it's determined it is too early to start treatment, we will place our patients on a no-charge recall program to monitor the growth and development of the patient and their dentition.
